WHEN an unidentified body is found, it can be so badly decomposed that the authorities have a hard time identifying the remains.
The task is made even more difficult when part of the body has been consumed by scavenging animals.
Is it true, then, that a partially-eaten body was recently found in Perak?
Verdict:
TRUE
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said the public reported that a man's body, suspected to have been partially eaten by a monitor lizard, was found on Jalan Maharajalela in Teluk Intan at 12.05pm on Monday (March 4).
"Initial checks found several bite marks from the lizard on the victim's body, with the face partially missing.
"The victim was naked and pinned by a log in the river. A check at the location did not find any identification documents," he said.
ACP Ahmad Adnan said the time of death was still being determined.
He said the body was sent to Hospital Teluk Intan, with the state of decomposition making a post-mortem difficult.
"For now the case has been classified as sudden death, until new evidence is found," he said.
He urged those with missing family members to contact the police station.
He also appealed to those with information to contact Teluk Intan police station chief Insp Mohd Nurhalim Shamsuri at 05-6299222.
