DEALING with an unplanned pregnancy or childbirth can be daunting and may sometimes force people into extreme measures such as baby dumping or worse.
Newborn babies have been left at the doorsteps of charity organisations, hospitals and even a laundromat.
Sometimes, however, the babies are abandoned in places that can lead to death if they are not found quickly.
It was said recently that the body of a newborn was found in a drain near a construction site in Ipoh.

In Ipoh, the body of a newborn baby girl was found in a drain near the construction site of the new Hospital Seri Iskandar.
Perak Tengah OCPD Supt Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said police received information about the discovery at about 3.15pm on Sunday (March 10).
"The body was found naked, with the umbilical cord cut.
"She was found lying face down and submerged in the drain," he said in a statement.
He said a physical check found no external injuries.
"A post-mortem will be conducted by a forensics expert from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here at Hospital Changkat Melintang in Bota on Monday (March 11) to determine the cause of death.
"The case will be investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealment of birth by secretly disposing of the infant's body,
"Those with information on the incident are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Mohamad Zulkarnain Jusoh at 013-974 0294," he added.
