WHAT’S in a name? Usually, we hear about parents giving their children names that bear their aspirations or legacy for their children.
In the case of Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, it may have been the other way around.
His mother’s maiden name was said to be Marion Moon, a fitting name for the mother of the legendary astronaut who was the second person to step on the moon after Neil Armstrong.
But is such an amazing coincidence actually true?
Verdict:
TRUE
Aldrin, who is 94 this year, acknowledged this in a social media post wishing his late mother a happy Mother’s Day in 2017.
“My mother’s maiden name was Marion Moon, so pioneering was my destiny. Best mother a boy could hope for. In my heart forever,” he wrote.
Unfortunately, his mother never saw Aldrin fulfil his destiny.
She passed away shortly before Aldrin and his Apollo 11 crewmate Armstrong made history on July 20, 1969 by becoming the first humans to land on the moon.
