Did such an attack happen in Sibu, Sarawak as alleged?

VERDICT:

TRUE

A man was detained in Sibu on Sunday (April 14) here for assaulting another man he suspected of having an affair with his wife.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed this, saying that the 26-year-old man has been remanded until Thursday (April 18) to assist the investigation.

The arrest was made following a police report lodged by the 24-year old victim.

"The complainant said that at around 5pm that day while he was waiting for a bus at the Jalan Pahlawan bus terminal, he was approached by three unknown men who proceeded to attack him," he said on Wednesday (April 17).

ACP Zulkipli said the complainant was later taken by the suspect in a four-wheel drive vehicle to a house in Jalan Sentosa.

"Initial investigations found that the suspect was furious that the complainant had gone out with his (the suspect's) wife," he said.

He added that the suspect, together with three friends who are still at large, had then beaten and threatened the complainant not to disturb the suspect's wife again.

Acting on public information, the police had successfully arrested one of the local male suspects to assist in the investigation, ACP Zulkipli said.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 506/323 of the Penal Code for making criminal threats and causing injury.

Section 506 carries a penalty of imprisonment for a period of up to two years, or a fine, or both if convicted.

"Whereas the offense under Section 323 provides for a jail term of up to one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both," he said.
