IMAGES and videos have been circulating on social media showing water flowing through the streets of a city in Saudi Arabia like a river after a torrential storm.

It is said that the phenomenon happened during the heavy rain in Medina.

Is it true that the city of Medina is flooded?

The flooding was due to heavy rain that hit northern Saudi Arabia. Sinar Harian reported that the country was forced to close roads and schools amid travel warnings issued by the Saudi National Meteorological Center.

The footage that went viral on social media showed flash floods that began with heavy rainfall on Monday (April 30) in the Al-Ula and Medina regions. It showed vehicles almost submerged and swept away by strong currents.

Medina is the second holiest site in Islam and where the Al-Nabawi Mosque is located. It is also a popular destination to visit for those who go for Umrah and Hajj.

Previously, it was reported that flash floods hit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman.
