Shellfish can be bad for your health. Perhaps the same could be said about those who sell them too.

A video has gone viral showing two crab traders roughing up a Penang City Council (MBPP) enforcement officer and giving him a bad day.

Allegedly, this occurred recently at the Jelutong Market. Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

Two crab traders were arrested to assist in the investigation regarding a fight they allegedly had with Penang City Council enforcement officers in an incident on Thursday (May 9) morning.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid said the two traders, who were in their 30s, were arrested after they appeared at the district police headquarters to make a report.

"The two traders were arrested this afternoon (Thursday) after they came to make a police report. We also received a report from MBPP enforcement regarding the incident.

"The police will get a remand order in court tomorrow (May 10) for the two traders," he said when contacted on Thursday.

He added that during the 9.20am incident, the traders acted rudely towards the MBPP enforcement officers who were checking business licenses at the Jelutong Market.

"When the inspection was carried out, the MBPP enforcement officers found that the traders did not have a license. It is understood that the traders had been warned before because they did not have a business license.

"During the inspection, there was a verbal argument and provocation after which one of the traders acted aggressively and punched the enforcer in the face," he added.

The case was being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to intimidate civil servants from carrying out their duties.
