Working as a cashier at a convenience store in the heart of Kuala Lumpur must be like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.
Maybe a mother buying some groceries with a snotty-nosed kid in tow begging her for a lollipop, or an elderly man who comes in for his daily pack of smokes.
Or maybe, it's a machete-wielding maniac in a drug-fuelled rage trying to rob you.
Did something like this actually happen recently in a convenience store on Jalan Raja Muda, Kampung Baru, KL?
VERDICT:
TRUE
Life can be full of surprises like that, as one cashier found out on Saturday (May 18) when a man showed up with a machete and demanded more than just a box of chocolates.
According to Majoriti, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said police received a police report on the incident the next day around noon.
"We then managed to locate and arrest the suspect at 2.54pm on Jalan Datuk Abdullah Yasin, Kampung Baru.
"We also seized a 46cm-long machete during the arrest," he said.
The robber, a 46-year-old unemployed man, has 14 prior offences on his criminal record and also tested positive for drugs.
