THE news of certain illegal businesses being shut down can go viral quickly, especially when there is an element of disgust to the activities that were being conducted.

It was claimed recently that an illegal animal carcass processing site was operating in a residential area in Batu Gajah, Perak and that it has since been shut down.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

The operator of an illegal animal carcass processing site in Kampung Baru Chenderong was ordered to cease operation immediately on Monday (May 27) as it was disrupting the comfort of 2,000 residents in the area for the past five years.

State Communications, Multimedia and Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi said the operator is believed to have leased a 0.4-hectare area of land from a housing developer.

He added that this is where animal carcasses of chickens and ducks are processed into fish feed and agricultural fertiliser.

"According to information from several agencies present with us, the landowner - a housing developer - has misused the land by turning it into an animal carcass processing site.

"Furthermore, it should be noted that no licence has been issued by any relevant agency for any animal carcass processing activity,” he said, after inspecting the site in Kampung Baru Chenderong on Monday.

Mohd Azlan, who is also the Tualang Sekah assemblyman, added that a compound of RM1,500 had been issued by the Batu Gajah District Council (MDBG) in early May to the operator, for conducting the illegal activity.
