QuickCheck: Is there a fake TikTok account using the Selangor Raja Muda's name to scam victims?


EVERY public figure has a presence on social media, from royalty to celebrities to politicians.

However, since anyone can pretend to be whoever they want on social media, some people behind an account are not who they claim they are.

So, is there a fake TikTok account using the name of Selangor Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah being used to scam victims?

Verdict:

TRUE

On Monday (July 8), the police received a report about a TikTok account using the Raja Muda of Selangor's profile photo and name.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that the Selangor Palace lodged the report after discovering that the TikTok account did not belong to the Raja Muda of Selangor.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for circulating rumours to cause fear or alarm to the public and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Comm Hussein advised the public not to deliberately create social media accounts involving royal institutions to prevent unscrupulous individuals from misusing photos and videos of royalty.
