QuickCheck: Did a man drive against the flow of traffic in Johor?


IT is always a shock to see a car being driven against the flow of traffic, and this is especially so when such an incident happens along a busy road.

As such, any video that appears to show such an incident tends to go viral quickly as soon as it is posted on social media.

Recently, a video of a man driving against the flow of traffic went viral along with the claim that it happened in Johor.

Is this true?

TRUE

A man was arrested for dangerous driving against traffic on Jalan Ayer Hitam-Kluang recently, says acting Batu Pahat OCPD Supt Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani

He said his team detected the 30-second viral video at about 3pm on July 7.

"Based on the investigation and further action, a team from the Batu Pahat District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) identified and located the driver," said Supt Shahrulanuar

"The police detained a 46-year-old man and the car he was driving during the incident. Drug tests turned up negative for drugs.

Investigations found the suspect claimed he drove against traffic after taking six types of medication, which made him drowsy," he added in a statement on Saturday (July 15).

The investigation is being conducted under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

If convicted, the driver could be imprisoned for up to five years and fined between RM5,000 and RM15,000.
