QuickCheck: Did a man follow and harass a woman in her car in JB?


A PEACEFUL morning drive in a village was disrupted by another motorist who stopped a woman's car and demanded that she unlock the door.

In a video posted on Facebook, he is seen tapping on the window of a car while a child is seated in the back.

He then returns to his car and drives away as a woman's voice is heard saying she will report the incident.

It is said that the incident occurred in Kampung Melayu Majidee in Johor Baru.

Police confirmed that a 35-year-old man has been arrested for trailing and harassing a woman in Kampung Melayu Majidee.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said they were notified about the incident at 1pm on Wednesday (Aug 21) after receiving a video clip showing a 28-year-old woman being followed by an unknown man.

“At 1pm on Thursday (Aug 22), a police team apprehended the suspect in the Stulang Baru area.

"Initial investigation found that the man said he did so to ask about the whereabouts of his wife, who has not returned home," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 23).

ACP Raub added that a background check revealed that the suspect, a foreigner, had no priors but tested positive for methamphetamine.

"He has also been overstaying in the country and is currently on remand for 14 days until Sept 5 to help with the investigation," he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 for consuming drugs.

Earlier, three videos were posted on the Kampung Melayu Majidee Facebook group, which showed a man in a vehicle following a woman in the village.
