WE all know that smoking is bad and it does plenty of harm to a smoker on the inside, particularly the lungs.
But does it do harm on the outside too? Does smoking affect a smoker's physical appearance as well?
VERDICT:
TRUE
While it is common knowledge that smoking is harmful to a person's overall health, not many are aware that it can also damage the appearance of the skin.
Each inhalation of smoke exposes the skin to harmful chemical toxins which induce premature aging and cause several skin concerns.
From sagging skin, to lines and wrinkles, to age spots, studies have shown that smokers are more susceptible to developing skin ageing faster.
But what's scarier to beauty-conscious folks is that smoking will also lead to one having dull and dry skin.
This is because the use of nicotine has been shown to impair overall blood flow by causing the narrowing of blood vessels.
Did we mention scars?
The narrowing of blood vessels also makes the skin of a smoker more prone to scarring.
Most smokers will find that their wounds may take longer to heal due to reduced oxygen-rich blood flow.
Not to mention, there is also a higher chance for smokers to develop chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and skin cancer.
So smokers, keep this in mind the next time you think about lighting up a cigarette.
If you're not worried about what smoking does to you on the inside because you don't see the effects, take a look in the mirror and see what it does to your skin.
