QuickCheck: Is Jawi increasing the cost of marriage courses?

WHEN it comes to wedding preparations, the cost is always a hot topic.

Recently, rumours have been swirling on TikTok about a significant price hike for the Islamic pre-marriage course in the Federal Territories, causing quite a stir among soon-to-be-weds.

But is it true that the fee for this essential course is set to jump from RM120 to RM150?

Verdict:

FALSE

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) has maintained the current fee for the marriage course at RM120 in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, and Labuan.

In a statement, Jawi clarified that there are no immediate plans to enforce the new RM150 rate that has been circulating online.

"Jawi takes note of the viral video on TikTok regarding the new fee rate for the Islamic Pre-Marriage Course in the Federal Territories," the statement read, according to Sinar Harian.

"However, for the time being, Jawi is not considering implementing the new RM150 course fee that has been talked about."

The viral claims over the past four days suggested that the marriage course fee in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur would be increased to RM150 starting November.

This led many prospective couples to rush to register for the course to avoid the purported price hike.

Jawi also reiterated in the same statement that the Islamic Pre-Marriage Course is mandatory for couples who wish to marry in the Federal Territories.

This requirement is intended to equip couples with the necessary knowledge and skills to face various challenges and issues in marital life.

The course is conducted based on the Integrated Module for the Islamic Pre-Marriage Course (MBKPI).
