QuickCheck: Did a fight break out at a Johor toll plaza?


FIGHTS in a public space are always shocking, given how peaceful this country generally is. As such, any video claiming to show a fight tends to go viral quickly along with any claim as to what caused it and where it happened.

Recently, a video of an altercation at a toll plaza went viral along with the claim that the incident happened at a toll plaza in Johor.

Is this true?

TRUE

Police here are investigating a viral video of a fight involving two people that took place at a Perling toll plaza here on Monday (Sept 30).

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said that they have received two reports from the two local men aged in their 30s and added that the incident occurred at about 10.11am.

“The fight occurred after a 35-year-old man approached a toll plaza staff after he could not use the Touch-N-Go function linked to his identity card despite having enough money inside it,” he said, adding that this resulted in a fight between the two men.

ACP Balveer added that the men sustained injuries in the fight, and said that the men were separated by passers-by at the scene.

He then said that the case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for affray which can lead to a six-month jail sentence, a RM1,000 fine or both upon conviction.
