QuickCheck: Did a snatch thief fake a traffic accident in Selangor?


WITH more and more being alert to different techniques and tricks criminals can use, it is logical that those breaking the law would change up their tactics in order to do what they want and get away effectively.

As such, any videos claiming to show a new trick used by criminals would go viral along with any news providing details on the crime.

Recently, a video went viral; it claimed to be of a snatch thief faking a road accident to get a car driver in a vulnerable position to be robbed.

Is it true that this happened in Setia Alam, Shah Alam as claimed?

In a statement released on the police's official Facebook account, Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said that the incident seen in the video happened on Sept 28.

He said that in the incident, a man lost his necklace to the snatch thief.

"The suspect had pretended to collide with the victim's car. When the victim got out to check to see the damage, the suspect snatched the victim's necklace and fled the scene," said ACP Iqbal.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal code and efforts to track and arrest the suspect are underway.
