IN A truly heartwarming tale that has captured the attention of many online, a story of brotherly love stands out amid the rush of new student registrations.

It is said that a dedicated brother embarked on an epic 613km journey by motorcycle from Sungai Udang, Melaka to Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in Sintok, Kedah to support his younger brother who was registering as a new student.

Fruit seller Ee Tai Qing, 27, undertook the journey from Sunday (Sept 29) to be with his brother during the latter's registration at the university on Tuesday (Oct 2).

According to a report by Sinar Harian, his brother Ee Tai Zhi, 21, travelled by bus from Melaka after being offered a place for a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management at UUM.

Tai Qing's sacrifice caught the attention of UUM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, who greeted and chatted with the brothers.

Tai Zhi promised to be fully focussed on his studies.

"I never expected to be offered a programme I am passionate about, and I'm eager to gain new experiences in Sintok Valley.

"I promise to give my full attention and absorb all the knowledge imparted by my experienced lecturers," he said on UUM's Facebook page.

Tai Zhi is among 4,195 new students who registered in Sintok on Tuesday morning.

They include local and international students enrolled in 48 undergraduate programmes for the 2024/25 session.

"Additionally, 57 more international students are participating in mobility programmes, including 34 from Indonesia, 11 from China, seven from Japan, three from Brunei, and two from France, bringing the total number of international students to 134," he told a press conference at UUM on Tuesday.
