QuickCheck: Did an ambulance collide with a cow in Kelantan?

DRIVING through rural areas can come with unforeseen surprises, especially in the darkness of the night or the early hours of the morning.

These surprises can include such things as running across wild animals – or in some cases, domestic livestock. In both instances, the outcome can be so dramatic that any news goes viral quickly.

It was claimed recently that an ambulance transporting a woman in labour hit a cow at a point between Gua Musang and Kuala Krai in Kelantan.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

This was confirmed by Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said the incident occurred at about 4am when the ambulance was en route to Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital (HSIP) in Kuala Krai.

He said that the ambulance was transporting a woman in labour when it struck a cow that suddenly crossed the road at KM30 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai.

"Despite the impact, the woman, the driver, and a doctor on board were unharmed. Another ambulance was dispatched to safely transfer the woman to HSIP for further treatment,” he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 18).

Supt Sik added that authorities are investigating the incident and have urged livestock owners to take responsibility and ensure their animals do not wander onto roads, as such negligence can lead to accidents.
