QuickCheck: Were a group of alleged motorcycle thieves posing as cops in Selangor?

HEARING of criminals masquerading as the police, robbing and hurting unsuspecting victims is quite shocking - and any news claiming this will go viral quickly.

Recently, it was said that a group of men disguising themselves as police personnel were arrested following an investigation into a stolen motorcycle along the North-South Expressway near Sungai Buloh.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

According to Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam, 10 suspects aged between 25 and 39-years-old were arrested on Oct 20.

“Four suspects stopped the victims at the side of the road and told them they were policemen. They then pretended to perform inspections before running off with the motorcycle and the belongings inside,” she said on Thursday (Nov 7),

Comm Sasikala added that the suspects did not wear police uniforms or produce any police identification.

Further inspections of the suspects showed a total of 26 prior criminal offences between them, alongside 10 prior narcotics offences.

“Two of the ten also tested positive for drugs. With their arrests, the police have solved 10 robbery cases within the Selangor area. The 10 have been handed over to Sungai Buloh police for further investigations,” she said.
