VIDEOS of accidents and road rage incidents often go viral on social media.
Recently, one such video went viral, showing a car trying to run over two men on a motorcycle. The driver of the vehicle was also seen trying to reverse over the victims before fleeing.
Is it true that the incident happened in Kuala Kurau, Kerian, as the captions for the viral video claim?
VERDICT:
TRUE
In a statemet, Kerian OCPD Supt Juna Yusoff said the police had come across the video, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), at about 11.30am on Wednesday (Nov 13).
He said the one-minute, 35-second video clip showed a car trying to run over two men on a motorcycle.
"A report was lodged by one of the victims, aged 27 years old, on Tuesday (Nov 12) at the Kuala Kurau police station.
"The victim and his 40-year-old friend had tried to stop the car, which is believed to have been trying to flee after having been involved in an earlier accident," he said.
"The driver of the car then rammed into the victim's motorcycle before fleeing," he added.
Supt Juna said the police were able to track down the 48-year-old car driver and arrested him.
"We have also seized the car that we believed was involved in the incident.
"The case will be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 42 of the Road Transport Act for reckless and dangerous driving," he said.
Supt Juna also urged the public not to speculate on the incident as it could cause public anxiety. Those with information are also urged to come forward to the Kerian police or contact 05-721 2222," he added.
