CASES of counterfeit money are rare in Malaysia; nevertheless, they are not unheard of.
Recently, news was circulating of a man attempting to purchase items using a fake RM100 note.
It is said that the incident happened in Negri Sembilan.

Sinar Harian reported that the police are tracking a man who allegedly tried to purchase hair gel using a counterfeit RM100 note in Kuala Pilah on Sunday (Nov 17).
District police chief Supt Amran Mohd Gani said a police report on the incident was received at 10am on Monday (Nov 18) from a woman who worked as a cashier at a shop.
She said the man handed her a RM100 note to buy hair gel. But when she realised the money was fake, the man ran away.
"A review of the closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage shows that the man had left in an unidentified car," said Supt Amran in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 20).
He said a case had been opened under Section 489 (B) of the Penal Code, and the police were still investigating the case.
"People with any information are urged to contact Sergeant Maznah Salleh at 06-481 1222 or come to the nearest police station," he said.
According to Sinar Harian, several other traders claimed to have also been victims of the man and shared their experiences on Facebook.
