IN A startling incident that has captured public attention, a video has gone viral showing a trailer detaching from its truck on a busy Malaysian highway.
The footage, taken from a dashcam, shows the back of the trailer coming loose and nearly causing a serious accident.
But is it true that this really happened in Malaysia?

Police in Kuala Lumpur have confirmed that they have taken a statement from the driver of the trailer to assist in the investigation of the incident that took place on the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) last Thursday (Nov 21).
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri stated that the cause of the incident was still under investigation.
"Police have taken the statement of the trailer driver," he said.
"We received a report regarding the case on Friday (Nov 22).
"The investigation is being conducted by the Bukit Aman Highway Investigation Unit under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added when contacted by Sinar Harian on Sunday (Nov 24).
The 17-second video, which has been widely circulated, shows the rear portion of the trailer detaching from the truck's cab.
Captured by another vehicle's dashcam, the footage shows the trailer in the far left lane suddenly veering right, narrowly missing another truck.
The authorities are working to determine what led to this dangerous situation, while the driver’s statement is expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, the public is reminded to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles are in good working condition to prevent such occurrences.
