CAUSING public mischief is not uncommon. We tend to hear too much of such news.
This time around, a video was circulating online showing a man who was struck by another man after he was seen damaging several motorcycles parked near a condominium in Jalan Lembah Pantai, in Tanjung Bunga.
Is it true that the individual committed the act to keep the man from causing more severe damage to other motorcycles parked alongside the road?
VERDICT:
TRUE
In the video, a man in a blue t-shirt appeared to be intoxicated, swaying unsteadily while holding a can of beverage and vandalising several motorcycles in the parking area.
The man was also seen mumbling something before another individual struck him with a helmet, causing him to fall unconscious.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the one-minute 25-second viral video was detected by the district police on social media at about 9:20pm on Saturday (Nov 23) showing an individual committing the act.
"We have received three reports lodged on Thursday (Nov 21) and Friday (Nov 22) in connection with the incident," he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 24).
ACP Abdul Rozak said an initial investigation found that the incident happened on Friday at about 6pm, near a condominium in Jalan Lembah Permai at Tanjung Bunga.
He said a man was seen causing damage to two motorcycles and a helmet.
ACP Abdul Rozak said the suspect has been identified and police will soon complete the investigation.
He advised the public not to make any speculations about this case as it could interfere with the investigation.
The case is investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
