The referees for the match between Selangor and Sri Pahang during the Pusingan 16 Malaysia Cup was pelted with "objects" by several spectators seated in the stands after the match concluded.
According to a report by Sinar Harian, the three match officials had just finished officiating the game at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ), being pelted with objects by fans as they made their way to the tunnel leading to the dressing room.
Fortunately, the objects did not hit the officials and security personnel on duty escorted all three referees away from the area near the pitch.
A video of the incident later went viral on social media.
In the match held on Sunday, Selangor had to bid farewell to the Malaysia Cup after losing to Sri Pahang with an aggregate score of 3-2.
Sri Pahang, who drew 1-1 with Selangor at the Temerloh Municipal Council Stadium recently, won the second leg at MBPJ Stadium 2-1 to secure a quarter-final meeting with Perak FC.
The match also drew attention as both of Sri Pahang's goals came from penalties following Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviews, as well as the cancellation of a goal by Ali Olwan after a VAR check.
