THE quest to reap maximum reward from minimum effort can be seen in every aspect of life, from getting promoted to burning fat to fattening up that bank account or retirement fund.
Against the advice of, well, possibly every parent and teacher ever, people seem ready to believe offers that promise an easy path to get what they want.
That's where scammers thrive, preying upon this yearning for shortcuts to do some shearing of their own.
Recently, a claim on TikTok went viral promising driving licences of any class from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) without having to take a test.
It also claimed that these licences would be officially in the system and could be renewed as usual and that all dealings would be done fully online directly with JPJ officers.
Is this true?
VERDICT:
FALSE
In a statement issued on Monday (Dec 2), JPJ denied that test-free licences were being issued.
It said it took a serious view of the claim by the account @lesenmemandu_my and would lodge reports with the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
It also urged the public not to fall for such claims and to contact the nearest JPJ office for clarification if they receive any such offers.
