QuickCheck: Are there fake MACC accounts on TikTok?

IN THE world of social media, fake accounts can easily mislead users into believing they're interacting with official entities.

Recently, there have been reports of TikTok accounts falsely using the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) name and logo.

Is it true that there are fake MACC accounts on TikTok?

Verdict:

TRUE

The MACC has confirmed that TikTok accounts using its name and logo without the blue tick verification symbol are fake.

"MACC would like to emphasise that the Commission has no connection with TikTok account operators using the official MACC name and logo without the blue tick as a symbol of identity verification," said the Commission in a statement posted on their social media platforms.

"The use of the MACC name and logo by unauthorised parties is an unethical act that misleads the public and harms the reputation and integrity of the MACC as a government institution," it said adding that the public should be cautious of such fake accounts.

"For authentic information, the public is advised to refer to the MACC's official channels on social media and the MACC portal," it said.
