VIDEOS of altercations and public disturbances often go viral on social media.
One such video currently making the rounds allegedly shows a woman being forced into a car by a man in Kajang.
Is it true, as claimed in comments on the video, that a woman was kidnapped in Kajang?
VERDICT:
FALSE
The police have quashed social media speculation on the purported kidnapping, saying that no reports have been received on the incident.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said police were made aware of the 1-minute, 34-second video at 10.30am on Thursday (Dec 5).
The video allegedly shows a woman being forced into a car by a man, while another man looks on. The video was allegedly taken on Jalan Zamrud Utama in Kajang.
"We have not received a police report on the matter.
"However, several witnesses at the scene said that one of the individuals in the video had told bystanders not to intervene as it was a domestic matter between a husband and wife," he said in a statement Thursday.
He said the police are in the midst of tracking the car's owner and the couple seen in the video.
"We are investigating further to discover what the real cause of the incident is.
"However, based on the information obtained, we can rule out that it was kidnapping," he said.
ACP Naazron urged those with information on the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Suresh at 017-433 3795 or any nearby police station.
"We remind the public not to make invalid comments that could cause public distress," he said.
