FISHING can sometimes lead to unexpected discoveries and in Kelantan, a peculiar catch has captured widespread attention.
A fish with a head resembling that of an alligator, known as the alligator gar, was recently caught and the tale quickly went viral on social media.
But is it true that such a fish was indeed caught in Kelantan?

Members of the Ikhtikaf ZB Mosque congregation in Kampung Padang Mengkali, Kota Baru, Kelantan, were thrilled after discovering a fish with a head resembling that of an alligator, known as an alligator gar, caught in their net last Friday (Nov 28).
The fish, measuring one metre in length and weighing eight kilograms, drew attention from locals due to its unusual appearance, featuring a jaw similar to an alligator's and hard fins.
Congregation member Saari Mohamed, 48, explained that the aquatic creature was caught in the net around 9pm after the area near the mosque was flooded.

"We took the opportunity to set the net and did not expect to catch such an unusual fish," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Wednesday (Dec 4).
He noted that the fish is indeed an alligator gar, classified as a primitive species originating from North America.
Residents speculated that the fish might have been kept as a pet and later escaped from a pond.
The alligator gar was later cooked in a curry and served to more than 20 mosque congregants.
Earlier, the story went viral after being shared by the public on social media.
