Could it really be true that a man damaged an ATM screen because he was too "drunk" to realise his actions?
Verdict:
TRUE
A 31-year-old local man allegedly admitted to police that he was so "drunk" that he punched an ATM, damaging its screen in Sabah's interior Nabawan district.
The incident occurred at the Tekun Jaya building in Nabawan town on Dec 27.
Keningau OCPD Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the man confessed to punching the ATM screen without realising he was damaging it.
A 42-year-old bank officer lodged a police report after the bank's security guard noticed the damaged ATM screen.
"As a result of questioning, the suspect admitted that he may have hit and punched the screen based on the wound on his hand," Supt Yampil said in a statement on Dec 29.
The suspect has agreed to compensate for the damage to the ATM machine, though the amount of loss has not yet been assessed.
Based on the investigation, police also found that the suspect does not have any past criminal record.
