QuickCheck: Does a viral video show police chasing a vehicle in Port Dickson?


A video circulating on TikTok shows several police patrol vehicles in hot pursuit of a car, but its authenticity and currency has been questioned.

An sight-second video was uploaded by TikTok on Jan 2, showing several police patrol vehicles pursuing a car.

In a statement, police said investigations revealed that the incident occurred on Jan 1 at around 1.40am on Dec 31 when police were conducting New Year's Eve patrols in the Jalan Pantai area in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.

Five police vehicles pursued a white truck suspected to be involved in the theft of cables.

The suspect, a 37-year-old local from Hulu Langat, Selangor, was apprehended near the Batu 1 traffic light intersection on Jalan Pantai, Port Dickson.

"Upon inspection, several sacks of cables and drugs were found in the vehicle.

"The suspect, who has a record of 26 prior crimes, including for drugs, tested positive for THC (cannabis)," said the police.

The statement added one police officer sustained minor injuries after being hit by the suspect's vehicle.

"The case is being investigated under Sections 307, 379, 353 of the Penal Code and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act. The suspect has been remanded for four days from Jan 1-4 for further investigation," read the statement.
