A COMMON piece of advice given to road users nowadays is not to engage with anyone after a possible misunderstanding.
This includes avoiding eye contact with the other party, making any kind of gesture or mouthing off at them, and just carrying on driving or riding while looking straight ahead.
This is to prevent untoward incidents that can sometimes escalate into violence and life-threatening situations.
Sometimes, however, the "other party" will just not let things be - and this is where the law has to step in.
In a recent viral video, it is claimed that an angry motorist repeatedly brake-checked another car before winding down his window and taking a photo of the alleged victim's vehicle.
It is said that the incident occurred near the Batu 11 toll plaza in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
Did this happen?
VERDICT:
TRUE
According to Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof, the suspected road bully was detained in Sungai Long, Cheras on Sunday (Jan 5).
This followed a police report lodged by a 50-year-old woman about the incident on Saturday (Jan 4), he added.
"The complainant was in a car driven by her son when a misunderstanding occurred on the road with the suspect at about 8.30pm.
"The suspect then overtook the victim's car and (brake-checked) it repeatedly near the Batu 11 toll plaza.
"He then followed the victim before winding down his window and taking a photo of the victim's car," he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 6).
A 1min, 32sec video of the incident then went viral on social media.
ACP Naazron said the suspect had been remanded until Tuesday (Jan 7) and his car was also seized.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving that could endanger the suspect and others.
"We urge those with information on the case to contact investigating officer Insp Chalart Cinda at 017-9825150, or the nearest police station," he said.
