Police are searching for a man who allegedly stole a woman's handbag at a food court at the Aquatic Centre in Seksyen 13, Shah Alam.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim stated that the victim, a food stall trader, lodged a police report around 5.19pm on Jan 2.

"The suspect stole the handbag, which was on a chair at the food court, while the victim was preparing to open her stall. The victim only realised the handbag was missing when she went to retrieve it.

"Her losses include cash and a mobile phone, estimated at about RM200," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 9).

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

"We are working hard to track down and detain the suspect as soon as possible.

We urge anyone with information on the case to contact investigating officer Sjn Hanafi at 010-372 8932."
