DURING the Covid-19 pandemic, then Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah was one of the most prominent figures in the public eye for his contributions to the nation's coronavirus-fighting efforts.
He may have stepped down from the position since, but certain quarters still seem intent on cashing in on his high profile to cheat others.
It is said that a Facebook account is now using his name and photograph to promote its "stroke prevention" methods, prompting Dr Noor Hisham to declare that he will sue those responsible.
Is this true?
VERDICT:
TRUE
In a Facebook post on Tuesday (Jan 14), Dr Noor Hisham wrote: “A gentle reminder to all netizens, please be aware of these fake statements using my name and photos going viral again.
“I am going to take legal action and hope this will be a lesson to all. Please be careful and do not believe such irresponsible claims from desperate scammers."
He also attached a screenshot of an article that claimed he was “known for treating people without pills” to cure vascular diseases.
This is the second time Dr Noor Hisham has said he would take legal action over the abuse of his name and image.
On Nov 18, 2023, he said he would take a Chinese herbal drink company to court, claiming that the company made use of his image to market its products.
"This is irresponsible marketing by a company intended to cheat the public. What a shameful act!" he wrote on X then.
Dr Noor Hisham's name and face were also misused to "endorse" diabetes drugs and miracle cures.
He has denied any involvement with the companies concerned.
