German man arrested for allegedly swindling 15 mln euros in COVID-19 benefits

BERLIN, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Germany had uncovered a fraud involving COVID-19 emergency aid and short-time work benefits totaling 15 million euros (17.6 million U.S. dollars), local authorities said Monday in a joint press statement.

A 36-year-old suspect had illegally claimed and received 7.4 million euros (8.7 million U.S. dollars), said the public prosecutor's office in the northern Germany city of Luebeck and the main customs office in the northern town of Itzehoe in the statement.
