Latvia's welfare ministry slammed for COVID-19 infections, deaths in nursing homes

RIGA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Latvian Welfare Ministry has been taken to task over inaction that has resulted in dozens of COVID-19 deaths in the Baltic country's long-term care facilities.

According to a scathing report released by the Ombudsman's Office on Friday, the lives of nursing home residents were being put at risk because of the sluggishness and inaction of the ministry and local authorities.
