LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. premiere of James Cameron's epic science fiction film "Avatar: The Way of Water" was held Monday night in Los Angeles, evoking emotional responses from industry insiders and excited fans.
Cameron missed the premiere held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood after he tested positive for COVID-19. But producer Jon Landau, Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger and some stars of the film attended the event.
The long-awaited film, distributed by Disney's 20th Century Studios, is the second installment in the Avatar film series created by Cameron. It's the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster "Avatar", the highest-grossing film of all time at the global box office with 2.9 billion U.S. dollars.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, "Avatar: The Way of Water" begins to tell the story of the Sully family, the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
The film will debut in North America on Friday. It's also set to hit theaters in China this weekend.
