CAIRO -- Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on Wednesday called on conflicting Sudanese parties to cease fire during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr (festival of breaking the fast) holiday that follows the holy month of Ramadan.
"I call on the brothers in Sudan from the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) ... to announce a ceasefire during the Eid days," the chief of the pan-Arab organization said in a video statement. (Arab League-Sudan-Ceasefire)

ANKARA -- Turkish foreign minister said on Wednesday it is holding talks with conflicting sides of Sudan for an ultimate ceasefire.
"We are negotiating with both parties. We are negotiating to stop the conflict," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu made the remarks in an address to reporters in Manavgat, Antalya province. (Türkiye-Sudan-Negotiation)

TEHRAN -- Iranian border guards seized a big batch of illegal weapons and ammunition, containing 70 firearms and over 11,000 bullets, in a border area in the western province of Ilam, the official news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday.
The haul comprised 60 Colt pistols, 10 Kalashnikov rifles, 11,395 bullets, and 120 magazines, Einollah Niazifar, a district judge in Dehloran County, was quoted as saying. (Iran-Illegal Weapon-Seizure)
