JERUSALEM, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese appliances, electrical, and electronics company Shenzhen Kaifa Technology Co. will manufacture smart electricity meters in Israel for the state-owned Israel Electric Corporation (IEC), the Israeli Economy Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Manufacturing will be carried out at the plastic injection company IPU's plant in the southern city of Kiryat Gat, with an extent of 15,000 to 20,000 meters per month.

The production in Israel follows the Chinese company winning an IEC tender for the supply of 200,000 electricity meters.

The plan to localize production met Israel's legal requirement that foreign suppliers that contract with an Israeli government body at 5 million U.S. dollars and above should make offset purchases or investments in Israeli industries.

Besides setting up a production line in Israel, Kaifa will also provide knowledge and professional training for the Israeli company, the ministry noted.
