NAIROBI, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kenya and Indonesia on Monday agreed to expand partnership on trade and investment in a move to bring more benefits to both sides.

Kenyan President William Ruto and his visiting Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement in mining and geology which will involve joint studies, knowledge sharing, and capacity building between the two countries.

"We have agreed to enhance and expand the partnership between Kenya and Indonesia with a focus on four key issues -- food security, mining, renewable energy, and health," Ruto said after holding a bilateral meeting in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

"We will seize our energies and create the necessary environment for increased trade between our countries," he said.

According to statistics from Kenya, investment and trade between the two countries were valued at more than 600 million U.S. dollars in 2022. The high-yielding areas of focus, Ruto underlined, include textiles and apparel, energy, mining, and oil production and refining.
