Over 18 kg psychotropic drugs seized in eastern Myanmar, 5 arrested


YANGON, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar police have seized 18.51 kilograms of psychotropic drugs worth over 2 billion kyats (952,380 U.S. dollars) in the eastern state of Shan, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) late Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Tachileik Township on Sept. 15 and seized 14.91 kg of psychotropic drugs (Happy Water).

On the same day, according to the interrogation, 3.6 kg of psychotropic drugs were discovered along with two motorcycles in Tachileik township, it said.

Five suspects were arrested for the cases, the committee said.

The CCDAC said that Myanmar police force is stepping up its efforts to effectively prevent the distribution of psychotropic drugs.
