Man with rifle fatally shot by trooper in U.S. Alaska

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- An Alaska state trooper shot and killed a 21-year-old man who was seen holding an AK-style rifle outside a motel in Tok of the U.S. state of Alaska early Monday morning, according to officials.

Guests at the motel called 911 early in the morning to report a man trying to break into their room, Alaska state troopers said.

A Tok-based trooper responded to the area. "Due to the adult male's actions, the trooper shot the adult male with their handgun," the troopers noted.

The man died at the scene. No one else was injured, according to the troopers.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation responded to the shooting and the deceased was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. Investigation will be independently reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions, the troopers said.
