Germany's 2023 inflation rate drops, still at high level


BERLIN, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Germany's annual average inflation rate in 2023 decreased to 5.9 percent from the previous year's 6.9 percent, a record high since reunification in 1990, said the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Tuesday.

Inflation in Europe's largest economy is "still at a high level," said Ruth Brand, president of Destatis, in a statement. "Food prices registered particularly sharp increases."
