NAIROBI, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Kenya Airways said Tuesday it had signed a codeshare agreement with Air Europa, a Spanish carrier, to help improve its connectivity with Europe as well as the United States.

Martin Gitonga, the head of network planning and alliances at Kenya Airways, said that the agreement will allow Air Europa passengers to fly to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, from Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, and allow Kenya Airways guests to fly to the Spanish capital of Madrid, New York and Miami in the United States.

"The agreement has significantly expanded customers' travel options by providing access and convenience as guests will enjoy benefits such as the purchase of a single ticket, single check-in, and connection with minimum waiting times," Gitonga said in a statement issued in Nairobi.

He said that the pact means that Kenya Airways codes will be deployed on select Air Europa routes and Air Europa codes will also be deployed on some Kenya Airways routes.

Gitonga added that the agreement reflects the growth of Kenya Airways' partnership strategy which has been restored since 2022 as travel demand returned after lifting the COVID-19 restrictions.
