GABORONE, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Botswana is expected to experience a heatwave from Wednesday to Friday, the meteorological services department warned in a press release.
The heatwave is expected to cover most parts of the southern African country and very hot to extremely hot temperatures of 36 degrees to 40 degrees Celsius are predicted, said the release issued Wednesday.
According to weather forecast, the highest temperature in Gaborone on Wednesday is 36 degrees Celsius.
The high temperature conditions are caused by the combination of persistent hot northerly wind flow at the surface and a high-pressure system at upper levels. Despite the prevailing heatwave conditions, thundershowers are still expected in some areas of the country, according to the weather forecast.
The temperatures are expected to decrease from Saturday, mainly due to cloudy weather conditions and isolated to scattered thundershowers which are expected to cover most parts of the country.
