Chinese devices account for 79 pct of Russia's total smartphone imports in 2023: study

ST. PETERSBURG, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese smartphone retailers have beefed up their presence in the Russian market, accounting for 79 percent of the country's total imports of such products in 2023, a recent study showed.

The total volume of smartphones imported into Russia in 2023 increased by 13 percent to 29.5 million devices, Russian newspaper Vedomosti reported on Tuesday, citing data collected by Russia's GS Group.

According to the study, the share of Chinese devices in Russia's total smartphone imports reached 79 percent last year, up 4 percent from 2022 and 29 percent from 2021.

In 2023, the largest number of smartphones imported into Russia was from China's Xiaomi, whose market share was nearly 30 percent. Other Chinese smartphone brands, Tecno and Infinix, respectively ranked second and fourth in terms of shipments to Russia.
