1 killed, 3 wounded in fire at private refinery in S. Iran

TEHRAN, March 7 (Xinhua) -- One was killed and three others injured in a fire incident at a private oil refinery in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Thursday, the official news agency IRNA reported.

The incident occurred at 11:00 a.m. local time (0730 GMT) when one of the furnaces at Aftab Oil Refining Company caught fire, IRNA quoted spokesman of the National Disaster Management Organization of Iran Hossein Zafari as saying.

The fire has been brought under control, and the injuries have been transferred to a medical center in the city, Zafari said, adding that an investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.

According to the IRNA, the furnace was undergoing repairs when caught fire.

Speaking to the semi-official Fars news agency, Mojtaba Moein Vaziri, director general of Hormozgan province's cooperatives, labor and social welfare department, said the deceased man in the incident was 38 years old.

He further mentioned that several safety warnings had been issued to the refinery unit prior to the incident.
