BRUSSELS, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Around 150 European dairy farmers took to the streets of Brussels on Monday calling for measures from the European Union (EU) to ensure their fair income.

The farmers, accompanied by plastic cows bearing the national flags of their countries, including Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Denmark and Latvia, demonstrated under the slogan "Fair income for farmers now."

They protested the fall in milk prices and the rise in production costs, and called on the EU to take action on the high production costs and support products that pay the farmers a fair wage.

The demonstrators said their fight was aimed at ensuring the sustainability of Europe's dairy industry and a fair future for the dairy farmers.
