India's GDP grows by 8.2 percent

NEW DELHI, May 31 (Xinhua) -- India's gross domestic product (GDP) growth during the previous financial year from April 2023 to March 2024 recorded a jump of nearly 1.2 percent from a year earlier, according to data released by the federal Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation on Friday.

The country's GDP grew 8.2 percent for the full year, and 7.8 percent during the last quarter (January-March 2024) of the financial year, it said.

According to media reports, the GDP growth was better than what most economists had predicted.

The Reserve Bank of India had forecasted a 6.9 percent growth in real GDP for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2023-2024, with a full-year projection of 7.6 percent.
