WINDHOEK, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Wednesday called for heightened investment in African connectivity to facilitate intra-Africa tourism.
Speaking at the inaugural Africa Hospitality Investment Forum in Windhoek, the country's capital, the vice president emphasized the sector's capacity for inclusive growth and environmental sustainability.
"Investing in improved air connectivity within Africa is crucial for unlocking the continent's tourism potential and driving economic growth," she said, emphasizing the importance of tourism as a significant economic driver, which can make a substantial contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) and employment in the country.
"The tourism sector in Namibia has demonstrated resilience and continues to thrive, contributing approximately 7 percent to our nominal GDP," she said.
She also lauded initiatives promoting sustainable tourism practices and economic inclusivity, urging stakeholders to prioritize green investments and community-driven tourism projects. She welcomed prospective investors to explore opportunities in Namibia, assuring them of a conducive business environment and government support.
"The government of Namibia is committed to creating a favorable investment climate, characterized by stability, safety, and support for investors seeking to contribute to our hospitality sector," Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
The Africa Hospitality Investment Forum, attended by industry leaders and government officials, aims to foster collaboration and investment in Africa's hospitality sector.
