U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.17 percent to 105.722 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.0742 U.S. dollars from 1.0729 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.2684 U.S. dollars from 1.2641 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 161.49 Japanese yen, lower than 161.52 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.9043 Swiss francs from 0.9035 Swiss francs, and it was down to 1.3675 Canadian dollars from 1.3745 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar lost to 10.5904 Swedish kronor from 10.6303 Swedish kronor.
