U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.24 percent to 104.875 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro added to 1.0837 U.S. dollars from 1.0812 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.2817 U.S. dollars from 1.2762 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 160.72 Japanese yen, lower than 161.25 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.8959 Swiss francs from 0.9001 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3628 Canadian dollars from 1.3611 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar dropped to 10.4776 Swedish kronor from 10.4992 Swedish kronor.
